Kudos to Jane Lynch

I love it when an actor who has been around for awhile finally finds a role and show that pushes them to another level. Doris Roberts was around for decades as a character actress popping up on tv shows, movies and on stage without much acclaim until 'Everybody Loved Raymond'. Jane Lynch is next in line!

I am certainly now a proud Gleek, loving the show 'Glee'. The show is musical, moving and hilarious with enough teen drama to have me cringing with memories of my own days in high school. Jane Lynch is a stand out in the cast and she most certainly deserves all the attention she is getting!

Jane began like most successful actors, on the stage. She worked with Second City for years and many may remember her as a staple in the movies of Christopher Guest. If you look at Jane's IMDB page, her long list of credits seems to cover almost every tv show of the last two decades. Add in her impressive movie credits, including this years 'Julie and Julia' and you have quite the impressive list! None of these shows have given Jane the attention she so richly deserves. Kudos Jane! Given it is Emmy Night I could not help but thinking a year from now you will be amongst the list of nominee's.

Kudo's to Kelly Clarkson!!!

I have always LOVED Kelly Clarkson. She is the anti Britney and for that I applaud her. Far more talent and class than the Jessica Simpson's of the pop world. Never one to be sucked in by the 'star machine'. She comes across as the same down home girl we first met so long ago when she was auditioning for American Idol. Love her rant about Kanye today. This girl is fierce naturally (without all the wind machines some other pop stars need to be strong and tough) Kudo's Kelly for actually being a woman girls should look up to!

Kudo's to Superherofan

Kudo's to Superherofan and his AMAZING site! I have been visiting it regularly for awhile but this week he has certainly outdone himself. Amazing caps of all my favorites! Be sure to check it out HERE:

Adrian Grenier in 'Entourage'

Alexander Skarsgård in 'True Blood'

Kudo's to Kathy Griffin

Most people either love or hate Kathy Griffin. I am in the LOVE LOVE LOVE column. Kathy simply makes me laugh longer and louder than most comedians working today. Last night we were treated once again to Kathy filling in for Larry King. She really should fill in every Friday night! Not only was Kathy on with Joan Rivers but also Levi Johnston and some child beauty queens. As hilarious as she and Joan were together, it her interview (well not really an interview as Levi did little but look 'out of it') with Levi that had me in stitches. Taking Levi as her date to the Teen Choice Awards was a stroke of comedy genius. Kudo's Kathy!

Kudos to: The Clintons

I have always loved the Clinton's, warts and all. Even with the scandals, I think Bill Clinton was one of the strongest presidents the US had in years. I also thought Hillary would have been one as well. Though I support Obama, I was behind Hillary all through the campaign. This week, with Laura Ling and Euna Lee finally home safe and sound thought it was a good day to say Kudos to the Clinton's.

Kudo's to Nick Adams and his fans!

If your a fan of Nick Adams like myself you might have heard Nick was the victim of discrimination last week when he and some friends attempted to enter the Turtle Bay grill and lounge on the east side of Manhattan. Well things did not go quite as planned and Nick and friends were not permitted in. Even though it is 2009 and this should not really be a surprise I still get taken aback by discrimination of this kind.. I encourage you all to check out Nick's Blog HERE: to read the full story and ensure Turtle Bay knows your feelings on the matter! Kudo's to Nick and his friends and fans for not sitting quietly by! Nick is a strong guy but I am sure it was a hurtful and difficult experience for he and his friends.

Kudo's to Kerr Smith and Dawon's Creek

A few weeks ago I was doing some research on stories of coming out in mainstream movies and televison. I watched several coming stories in movies and as well a few television shows which had a main character going through this sometimes difficult process.

I must say one of the best came from somewhere I did not expect, ‘Dawson’s Creek’. I had watched Dawson’s off and on through the years, but truthfully never really paid much attention. I know this story is old to some, but I had not realized the power it held until seeing it again. After re-watching the journey of Dawson’s Creek character Jack, I must give kudo’s to the shows writers and producers and of course the actor Kerr Smith. Jack’s journey hit close to home for me and as well mirrored that of many that I know.

Dawson’s did take some safe roads (which is to be expected on tv) by having Jack not exhibit any stereotypical gay characteristics (what are they anymore anyway...). They also had Jack good looking and a football star. I can forgive Dawson’s Creek for this as Kerr Smith is one of only a handful of actors on a television drama to play an openly gay character as a main cast memeber. The writers of Creek carefully had the audience get to know Jack, initially setting him up in a love triangle with Joey and Dawson. As this storyline evolved you could see Jack was struggling with who he was. Jack was not allowed to struggle privately however as a teacher at Cape Side hide shoved him out of the closet.

These scenes of Jack being forced to share his secret with the world with both heartbreaking and as well empowering. Actor Joshua Jackson was also great as Pacey, whose own struggles with school were mixed in with Jack’s storyline.

Kerr Smith did an outstanding job with the scenes put before him, especially effective were some of his scenes with tv dad (the wonderful and sadly missed David Dukes). To me it was refreshing that this coming out story was not just about Jack coming out to others, but as well Jack coming out to himself and accepting who he was. I only wish such mainstream storylines were featured on tv a decade or two ago when I was going through similar struggles. Kudo’s to Kerr Smith and those behind this groundbreaking story on Dawon’s Creek!

Kudo's to Thom Bierdz and The Young & The Restless

I have not watched 'The Young & The Restless', or any soap in over a decade, but I will be checking it out this week. Many of you might know actor and artist Thom Bierdz is returning to his role on the show and the storyline seems groundbreaking for daytime. Yes, gay characters on soaps are not new, but this storyline has a hook which is interesting and original. Many stars 'come back from the dead' but this is the first time I remember a character coming back 20 years after his 'death' to finally face his family about being gay. Besides Thom's return, it is an added bonus getting to see the amazing Tricia Cast back in the role as Nina.

Kudo's to Superherofan's caps of Tom Parker!

I am big follower of Superherofan's great site! I have used his caps many times on my blog. I encourage you all to check it out! Some of the best caps on the net.

Superherofan really outdid himself this week with his caps of Tom Parker from the Fox show 'Mental'. I have been a fan of Tom's for a couple of years now, but Tom is a difficult actor to research. It does not help that he has the same name as Elvis's famous Colonel, which makes web searches that much more difficult. It was a great treat to find Superhero's amazing caps of the adorable Tom Parker!

Kudo's to Sacha Baron Cohen

I know some are worried about stereotypes in 'Bruno' but I am such a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen. What a marketer! I just got finished reading his feature in GQ and although I will have to wait to see the flick, right now I am lovin 'Bruno'.

Kudos to: Dustin Lance Black

I have written a few times about my love and respect for Dustin Lance Black. Well kudos to Dustin, who to say the least had a pretty crappy week, got himself together and did what he does so well. Last night Dustin was on CNN's 360 speaking for us all on recent developments on gay marriage and Obama's current stance on the issue. As usual, Dustin came across as eloquent and passionate. Thank you Dustin!

Kudo's to Talk Show Hosts

Ok Ok, I just blogged below about not liking sites that serve to bring others down, but, at the risk at being called a hypirite....

Kudo's to Al Roker, Whoopi Goldberg and all the talk show hosts who are finally calling these two knobs for who they are. Their 15 minutes have to be up soon, PLEASE!!!

I think these two should always wear the masks!

Kudo's to David Letterman!

I am not a hater of Sarah Palin. Even though I certainly wanted her and McCain to lose last year, I thought she got a bum rap by the press. I hate almost all of her policies but the attacks on her were directed sharply at her family and her intellence. I am someone who likes to see someone in the political arena who is not your typical Washington clone. (although maybe not as VP...). Sarah provided me with lots of laughs during the election, some intential, some not. I simply respected this woman as a hard working mother. Even though again, I would NEVER want her elected, seeing how some went after her kids was not pleasant to watch.

That being said...

Kudo's to David Letterman! Yes, without a doubt, the joke was in poor taste, really poor taste, but...when your on 4 or 5 nights a week for as many years as Letterman, that is bound to happen. But... Palin's reaction and comments about Letterman are just as bad or worse than the joke that began it all. For someone so outraged at his comments, she certainly jumped right into the mud with him. Sarah, I liked ya...not a lot, but a little but no more. Kathy Griffin summed you and your husband up quite nicely on DL the other night and I will leave it at that.

I am sure Letterman regrets his comments, they were in very bad taste, but Palin's subsequent comments are just as bad.

Kudos to Adam Lambert!

I have written before about my loathing for certainly web celeb sites. One reason is that many choose to 'out' celebrities against their will. I loath anyone 'outting' another without consent. One's sexuality is not the business of any other unless one chooses to share it. I applaud Adam Lambert for playing 'coy' with the media the past while. In some ways I cannot believe how many people felt quite fine asking Lambert and others connect to Idol about it as if it were anyone's business. The fact of the matter, people really did not need to ask, the answer was never hidden, people just wanted to be the one to get the scoop. Lambert never attempted to cover who he is, he just never felt the need to explain it. This is the mark of a true artist.

Kudo's to Sacha Baron Cohen

Kudo's to Sacha Baron Cohen, who as Bruno landed his ass right in front of Eminem at the MTV movie awards. Now I am still not confinced this was real, I can't help but think Eminem was in on the joke, but regardless it was a riot. Since Eminem certainly has pushed his ass in front of the camera on numerous ocassions it is hard to imagine he would be upset, but who knows.

Kudo's to Robert Gant

Got to give a shout out to Robert Gant. Firstly the guy is absolutely gorgeous! Secondly, for those who have read this blog for awhile know that I have struggled with watching and liking 'Queer As Folk'. I have finally finished the series and my feelings are still hit and miss. Yes, I certainly enjoyed Sharon Gless, yes certainly I liked the skin, yes certainly there were some storylines and characters I got into. Overall though I still find the show hit and miss. Maybe it is that it's orginal characters are all pretty much just stereotypes. Not so much on the page, as it was not as jarring in the British version, but the US version almost seemed to pick every gay stereotype and shove them all in this one show. That does not mean that the actors were not effective, many were, but it also made much of the show hard to stomach for me. I am sure the groundbreaking things Queer As Folk was able to accomplish were dimished with the negativity the show got for promoting not only the best of, but the worst of the gay community. Maybe this made it realistic, I am still not convinced. (Btw: Randy Harrison is still not winning me over, but...he certainly is not as bad as I first wrote when starting to watch).

I did however find two characters and actors that I really enjoyed. I have talked about my love for the talented Dean Armstrong before, but I have not wrote much about Robert Gant before. At first I found his character a bit boring, but as his storyline went on, I found his character really grounded the show for me for awhile and really made Hal Sparks character a lot less annoying. Gant is a rare gay actor who has gone seemlessly between gay and straight roles without any muss and fuss. This is a tribute to his talent. I know this may not have been possible if he had been cast as Brian or was a bigger name in the business, but he certainly deserves kudo's for his great work not only on Queer As Folk but many other shows and movies. Check out Robert's official site HERE:
